- Direct the development of software and database design to provide bioinformatics support for agency-sponsored research projects;
- Oversee and participate in the operation of a scientific consultation desk to address questions and provide advice to a large and active community of molecular biologists seeking guidance in sequence analysis techniques;
- Design, implement, document, and maintain UNIX scripts and programs in order to make complex software more accessible to scientist users;
- Design, implement, and maintain intranet web pages, including development of web-based CGI applications, in order to provide a facile user interface to a large collection sequence analysis software packages and databases;
- Conduct workshops and training seminars for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty in sequence analysis theory and practice;
- Collaborate with scientists in the design and implementation of algorithms for novel sequence analysis needs;
- Maintain a large collection of DNA and protein sequence databases and various software packages used to access these databases;
- Supervise the administration of user services and SACS staff;
- Attend conferences and read and abstract literature in order to keep abreast of technical developments in the field and report these developments to our scientist user community;
