I have sent email to the EMDB help desk to see if they permanently shutdown ftp. Fetching the maps from the EMDB web site uses the same URL but with https. I believe I used ftp because in the past it was significantly faster than https. Did not see any announcement online that EMDB was shutting down ftp although that would not be too surprising.
