Thus I'm thinking there should be buttons on the GUI to perform these actions, in addition to the context menu approach.

I'm thinking an additional button row immediately beneath the table of hits:

[Load Structures] [Show Sequence Alignment] [Open Database Webpage]

...or if you don't think that is explanatory enough, maybe with preceding text, something like:

For chosen hits: [Load Structures] [Show Sequence Alignment] [Open Database Webpage]

I'm also thinking there should be a colon after the ""Show columns"" text that's already there:

Show columns: [All] [Default] [Standard]  [Set Default] [Toggle controls]
