To give progress messages in the status line during a calculation or reading a large volume file requires the status line to redisplay its text without needing to return to the wx event loop.  Chimera 1 does this.  Chimera 2 is not doing this.  Oddly the Reply Log in Chimera 2 does update without returning to the event loop.
