Hi Jean-Paul,
There is nothing exactly like you describe, but you could use the  
"alias" command, for example:

alias group1 #0,1,5-8
alias group2 #2-4
~modeldisp group1
modeldisp group1


One slightly tricky thing is that if you are using commands to toggle  
"Active" status (whether movable or not), you would also need aliases  
that don't include the #.  The "select" command has two functions,  
activation for motion and selection, where the former use is signaled  
by the absence of #.  For example,

alias g1 0,1,5-8
~select all
select g1
