I’d guess you Chinese language input enabled on the machine and that is interfering with Sparky interpretation of shortcut keys. Here’s a description of how this problem was solved a few years ago

Sparky does not accept keyboard shortcuts on Linux Fedora 10 when foreign language input support is enabled: Language Input Utility SCIM (Smart Common Input Method platform). Disabling SCIM fixed the problem.

Hello!

I am an scientific user of Sparky. Recently, I installed it in a new computer according to the instructions. However, when I started the software, I found that all the 2-key accelerators did not work. The operating system of my computer is Debian 7.4.0-64amd (with ia-32libs). I dont know how I can solve the problem. Could you give me some directions and help me get it done?

Best regards,
