Hi,
my name is MariaRosa Quintero, Im currently working in Grenoble at the IBS as a postdoc. Ive been using Sparky for a long time, and now Im having problems in Fedora 10. I can not use the keyboard commands, even after desabling the SCIM. Any idea why?
Thanks a lot,

MariaRosa

Hi Tom,

Just as you pointed out, It is the Language Input Utility SCIM (Smart
Common Input Method platform) that is causing the problem of Sparky not
responding to keyboard commands. The things I did according to your
suggestions are as follows:
1) start Sparky.
When I type keys while the main Sparky window has the focus,
nothing appeared at the bottom and ct does not bring up any dialogue
window.
2) disable SCIM
Sparky is frozen when SCIM is disabled.
3) start Sparky again
Keyboards commands work nicely.

I attach a screenshot of disabling SCIM and then successfully running
Sparky in the hope that it might be useful when other Sparky users
encouter the same problem.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks a lot

Hi Yonggang,

The keyboard shortcuts only work when the focus is in one of the
spectrum windows or the main Sparky window or the pointer mode
window, but not when the focus is on other dialogs like the
assignment dialog. It sounds like you have the focus in the right
window. I dont have any idea why the shortcuts dont work at all
-- Ive never heard of that. It seem likely it is specific to your
Linux but Im not sure what. Do you have some internationalization
enabled maybe for Chinese? Possibly the characters are being sent
as unicode to handle international character sets and Sparky cant
handle that. When you type keys for shortcuts the usually appear at
the bottom of the main Sparky window. Does anything appear there
when you type?

Tom

Hi,
My name is Yonggang Chang. I am currently working as a postdoc
at Univesity of California, Merced.
I have just installed, or more preciesly unpacked, the latest
version of Sparky 3.11.3 (sparky-linux2.6.tar.gz
http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/home/sparky/distrib-3.113/sparky-linux2.6.tar.gz )
on my fedora 10 laptop with Linux 2.6.27. It starts without any
problem. However, the keyboard commands dont work. For example,
ct does not bring up the contour dialog. In the pointer mode
window, pressing F1, F2, ... does not respond either. I am
wondering if you could give me some hint about how to solve this
problem. BTW, the same version works on fedora 10 (Linux 2.6.25)
(which my colleague tested on his laptop).
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot
Yonggang Chang
