R Programming Language:

• The R programming language was (and continues to be) developed for doing statistical work. Its interpretive nature (having a command line as well as running scripts -- programs) allows for rapid development of small projects. It also has many data structures built into the language.
• This nice, brief introduction to R also demonstrates the graphics which add to the attraction of R as a programming language.
