Area/Volume Tool Differences

Measure Volume and Area Area/Volume from Web
does not require internet connectivity uses the StrucTools server
calculates total surface area and surface-enclosed volume, not values per atom calculates per-atom surface areas and volumes and assigns them as attributes
works on surfaces shown in Chimera: molecular surfaces (solvent-excluded), GRASP surfaces, and isosurfaces from Volume Viewer and Multiscale Models works on molecular coordinates; computes solvent-excluded surfaces, solvent-accessible surfaces, and atomic Voronoi volumes, but these are not displayed in Chimera
depends on parameter settings on Chimera such as the VDW radii and probe radius used to calculate a molecular surface uses the internal parameter settings of the StrucTools server, which cannot be adjusted from Chimera
